In this transcript from episode 11 of the ABC’s George Negus Tonight: New People Dimensions series, reporter Brendan Hutchens interviews Prince Leonard I of what was the Hutt River Province Principality (now the Principality of Hutt River). In April 1970, the Hutt River Province seceded from Australia and has functioned since as a principality under the sovereignty of Prince Leonard I and his wife Princess Shirley. The PHR’s Royal College of Heraldry established an extensive system of heraldic honours, and during the course of this interview Prince Leonard performs a knighthood ceremony to admit Brendan Hutchens into the Royal Order of the Hutt River Province principality.
