Description
Images of a memorial cross for William Marmion in ring-headed ‘Celtic’ style. The cross was designed by C.L. Oldham and J.H. Eales and sculpted by P.G. Porcelli and V. Reilly. The Marmion Memorial was unveiled in 1902 and is located opposite the Basilica of St. Patrick’s in what was formally known as Mayor’s Park. Free-standing ring-headed high crosses were common in medieval Ireland, and also occur in Scotland, the Isle of Man, Wales, Cornwall, and northern England.
