                <text>A view of the timber trusses and arch braces of the ceiling at Christ Church, Claremont, in Western Australia. The ceiling of the church is comprised of tongue and groove pine boards. It is supported by timber crucks extending from corbels on the walls between the arcading. The curved timbers intersect to form functional, but also decorative, arch-braces. Arches roof trusses were a common feature of medieval architecture.&#13;

About Christ Church, Claremont:&#13;
&#13;
Christ Church is an Anglican Church located in Claremont, Western Australia. It was designed by Perth architect J. J. Talbot Hobbs and built in a Gothic Revival style. The foundation stone was laid on 10 September 1892, and the original church building (consisting of the Sanctuary and the eastern four bays of the nave) was completed in February 1893. The nave was extended in 1901, and in 1909 two aisles were added. Further extensions took place in 1938 when the vestry, porch and square bell tower at the western end were completed under the supervision of architect T. W. L. Powell. </text>

&lt;p&gt;A view of the large rose window on the eastern wall of Winthrop Hall at The University of Western Australia. Inside the hall, the rose window is a focal point above the dais. Rose windows were popular decorative features of Romanesque and especially Gothic architecture in England and Europe by the thirteenth century.&lt;/p&gt;&#13;
&lt;p&gt;&lt;strong&gt;About Winthrop Hall:&lt;/strong&gt;&lt;/p&gt;&#13;
Winthrop Hall was designed by Melbourne architect Rodney Alsop. It was built in a Romanesque style, typified by its rounded arches, columns, arcading, sturdy walls (they are 9ft thick) and large square tower. The architect described the style as being of Italian ancestry, but notably &amp;ldquo;anglicised and adapted to the local conditions&amp;rdquo; (See &lt;em&gt;Western Mail&lt;/em&gt;, 21 April 1932, pp.14: &lt;a href="http://nla.gov.au/nla.news-article38891565" target="_blank"&gt;http://nla.gov.au/nla.news-article38891565&lt;/a&gt;). Winthrop Hall, Hackett Hall to its east, and the Great Gate and the Arts and Administration Building to its west were designed and built together as a group of University Buildings. They were funded by a bequest from The University of Western Australia&amp;rsquo;s first Chancellor, Sir John Winthrop Hackett (1848-1916), and were officially opened at a ceremony on 13 April 1932. Based on photographs taken by Rodney Alsop, Winthrop Hall&amp;rsquo;s architect, in Italy in 1925, the design for the rose window is likely to be based on one at the Basilica of San Francesco in Assisi. The Former Magistrateâ€™s Court Building is a three-storey building of French Romanesque design. As is common of neo-romanesque or Norman Revival architecture, the entrance is strongly modelled; the already large doorway is amplified by archivolts, in this case a band of five semi-circular arches, column jambs and decorative hood moulding.  &#13;

The Former Magistrateâ€™s Court building was designed by Department of Public Works architect George H B Austin and built by the Swanson Brothers. It replaced a two-storey brick building on the site that previously housed the Supreme Court and then the Court of Petty Sessions. Construction of the new building began in 1911 and was completed in 1914. The Court of Petty Sessions, later renamed the Melbourne Magistrateâ€™s court, operated from the building from 1914 until 1995. It is now owned by the Royal Melbourne Institute of Technology (RMIT) and is used for lectures.</text>

                <text>The front facade of the former Magistrateâ€™s Court Building on the corner of La Trobe Street and Russell Street in Melbourneâ€™s CBD. The Former Magistrateâ€™s Court Building is a three-storey building of French Romanesque design that was constructed entirely from Australian materials. The strongly modelled entrance, thick, squat columns and solid masonry are characteristic of Norman Revival or neo-romanesque architecture, as are the tourelles, the tower and semi-circular windows and arches.&#13;

The Former Magistrateâ€™s Court building was designed by Department of Public Works architect George H B Austin and built by the Swanson Brothers. It replaced a two-storey brick building on the site that previously housed the Supreme Court and then the Court of Petty Sessions. Construction of the new building began in 1911 and was completed in 1914. The Court of Petty Sessions, later renamed the Melbourne Magistrateâ€™s court, operated from the building from 1914 until 1995. It is now owned by the Royal Melbourne Institute of Technology (RMIT) and is used for lectures.</text>

                <text>A close-up of one of the ornately decorated neo-gothic spires at St Paulâ€™s Cathedral in Melbourne. Construction of the spires began in 1926. This was thirty years after the initial building had been completed, and consequently they are slightly darker in colour than the sandstone used for the rest of the Cathedral. They were designed by Sydney architect James Barr, and differ from the more modest single spire and two towers proposed by the Cathedralâ€™s original architect, William Butterfield. In the early twentieth century, these spires dominated the Melbourne skyline.&#13;

About St Paulâ€™s Cathedral:&#13;
&#13;
St Paulâ€™s Cathedral is located at the intersection of Flinders Street and Swanston Street in central Melbourne. It was built in a Victorian Gothic architectural style to the design of prominent English architect William Butterfield. The foundation stone was laid in 1880 and the Cathedral was consecrated in 1891. Butterfield oversaw the building remotely until 1884, when he resigned following disputes with the Church authorities in Melbourne. The remainder of the construction was supervised by well-known local architect Joseph Reed. Other distinctive features of St Paulâ€™s include its multiple lancet windows, decorative blind tracery, chequered tiling on the wall above the entrance and elaborate stained glass processional doors inside the entrance doorway. </text>
