                <text>The current Uniting Church in the small Tasmanian town of Westbury was built as a Methodist Church. Building commenced in 1865 and it was completed in March 1867. It was designed by the Melbourne architectual firm (Thomas) Crouch and (Ralph) Wilson. The brick and pressed cement building is in the Gothic Revival style and based on late thirteenth century English churches. It features pointed arch doorway and windows, window tracery on the large window above the entrance, buttresses, a bellcote, and lancet windows.</text>

                <text>The Uniting Church in the small town of Whitemore in northern Tasmania was formally a Methodist church. The simple brick building was designed by Launceston architect Percy Oakden (1845-1917) in the Gothic Revival style with buttresses, lancet windows, and a pointed arch door and doorway. The use of a darker paint colour effectively highlights the buttresses and pointed arches. The church hall beside the church incorporates part of an earlier timber chapel. The foundation stone for the Methodist church was laid in 1864 and it was opened in 1865 by the President of the Wesleyan Conference Rev. A.A. Quick. It became part of the Uniting Church in 1977.  </text>

                <text>The former Metropolitan Gas Company building is located at 194 Flinders Street in the Melbourne CBD. It is opposite St Paulâ€™s Anglican Cathedral and was designed by Reed, Smart and Taplin in the Gothic Revival Style to harmonize with the Cathedral. It was completed in 1892, the year after the Cathedral was consecrated. Joseph Reed (1823-1890), part of the team that designed the Metropolitan Gas Company building, supervised the work on Cathedral after the original architect resigned in 1888. Originally in red brick, the faÃ§ade of The Metropolitan Gas Company building was resurfaced in synthetic stone in the 1930s. The building features pointed arches, lancet windows with tracery, columns, a large square tower and smaller round towers topped by finials, and a stately pointed arch entrance with moulding.</text>

                <text>The former Mortuary Station is located behind Sydneyâ€™s Central Station in the inner-city suburb of Chippendale on Regent Street, after which it was renamed. The station was designed by James Barnet and completed in 1869. It was part of the Rookwood Cemetery railway line, whereby special funeral trains transported bodies from the city centre to the cemetery for burial. The station is in the Gothic Revival style, in particular the 14th-century Venetian Gothic, and was deliberately designed to appear like a church (Indeed, one of the former stations on the line was dismantled and rebuilt in Canberra where it is now a church). The Venetian Gothic style combined elements from Gothic, Byzantine, and Moorish architecture. Mortuary Station features columns topped with decorated capitals, small lancet windows, pointed arches, a pointed-arch ticket window, decorated chimney, a spire, and bas-relief sculpture including a foliage motif and cherubs&#13;

The Rookwood line was officially closed in 1948 but the renamed Regent Street Railway Station is still sometimes used for special events.  &#13;

Designed by William Porden Kay (1809-1870), it was built as a private sixty bed hospital for Dr Edward Samuel Pickard Bedford (1809-1876), with the foundation stone being laid in 1847. After the hospital closed in 1862 the building was used by the Lands and Survey Department and then the Health Department. The building has a crenelated parapet above the second storey, and another above the pointed arch entrance.    </text>

                <text>&lt;p&gt;The former St Matthew&amp;rsquo;s Presbyterian Church is in the suburb of Glenorchy in Hobart, Tasmania. It was designed by the convict architect James Blackburn (1803-1854) in 1839. The foundation stone was laid by Governor Sir John Franklin (1786-1847) in 1839 and the church was built by the Hobart company Kirk and Fisher and completed in 1841. The church is in the Romanesque Revival style and is one of the earliest remaining Romanesque Revival buildings in Australia. The style is evident in the entrance to the church featuring a semi-circular arched doorway and door, and on the blind arcading above the doorway. The doorway also decorated columns and decorated molding on the doorway arch.&lt;/p&gt;&#13;
&lt;p&gt;Romanesque Revival architecture is sometimes referred to as Neo-Norman due to the Normans influence in spreading the Romanesque style through England after their conquest in 1066.&lt;/p&gt;&#13;

It focuses on discourses about, debates over, and changing interpretations of i) Australiaâ€™s medievalist political and religious institutions and rituals, ii) its architecture, and iii) its civic environment. In this Collection are items relating to all three of these key areas. Firstly, you will find items that point to the medieval influences and inflections that still permeate and influence our political, legal and religious institutions and traditions.                 <text>&lt;p&gt;The former St Matthew&amp;rsquo;s Presbyterian Church is in the suburb of Glenorchy in Hobart, Tasmania. The church is in the Romanesque Revival style and is one of the earliest remaining Romanesque Revival buildings in Australia. The style is evident in the rear window of the church, made up of three narrow windows featuring tracery with semi-circular arches, above which are two small circular windows. The window frame also has a semi-circular arch, with columns and capitals on either side of the window.&lt;/p&gt;&#13;
&lt;p&gt;St Matthew&amp;rsquo;s was designed by the convict architect James Blackburn (1803-1854) in 1839. The foundation stone was laid by Governor Sir John Franklin (1786-1847) in 1839 and the church was built by the Hobart company Kirk and Fisher and completed in 1841.&lt;/p&gt;&#13;
&lt;p&gt;Romanesque Revival architecture is sometimes referred to as Neo-Norman due to the Normans influence in spreading the Romanesque style through England after their conquest in 1066.&lt;/p&gt;&#13;
