                <text>St Hubertâ€™s vineyard in Coldstream, Victoria, was founded by Hubert de Castella in 1862. It is named after St Hubert, the â€˜Apostle of Ardennesâ€™ and patron saint of hunters. Born c.656, Hubert was the eldest son of Bertrand, Duke of Aquitaine. He was a prominent member at the Court of Neustria in his youth and later (after fleeing to the Eastern Frankish territories) at Pepin of Heristalâ€™s Court in Austrasia. He is believed to have increasingly prioritised hunting over religious observance, which culminated sometime soon after his marriage (682) in a vision of a stag carrying a shining cross between his antlers. The stag told him to transform his ways or he would go to hell. Henceforth, he distributed his wealth amongst the poor, renounced his dukedom, was ordained as a priest, founded a number of monasteries and engaged in missionary work until his death in c.727. In homage to this legend, the St Hubertâ€™s Vineyard emblem features a stag and a cross. </text>

                <text>&lt;p&gt;A view of the chapel interior at St Ildephonsus&amp;rsquo; College in New Norcia.  St Ildephonsus was a seventh-century monk at the Benedictine monastery  of Agli near Toledo. From 657 until his death in 667, he served as the  Archbishop of Toledo. One of his works, De Virginitate Sanctae Mariae,  is a treatise defending the perpetual virginity of Mary. The painting  above the altarpiece in the New Norcia chapel depicts the hagiographical  legend in which Mary appeared before Ildephonsus and presented him with  a priestly vestment as a reward for honouring her.&lt;/p&gt;&#13;
&lt;p&gt;About New Norcia:&lt;br /&gt; New Norcia is a monastic town located 132 km north of Perth in Western  Australia. The town is owned and run by a community of Benedictine monks  and houses one of only three Benedictine monasteries (for men) in  Australia. At its height the monastery housed approximately 80 monks,  but currently there are only seven in residence. The Benedictines are  part of a religious order within the Catholic Church known as the Order  of St Benedict (OSB). Benedictines live in small, largely autonomous  communities and base their way of life on the Rule of St Benedict, which  prioritises a balance of prayer and work and calls for promises of  stability, obedience and a conversion of life. The first Benedictine  community was established in the sixth-century in Italy by St Benedict  of Nursia (c.480-547).&lt;/p&gt;&#13;
&lt;p&gt;Originally intended as a mission to evangelise and educate the  indigenous peoples of the Victoria Plains, the site at New Norcia was  founded in 1847 by two Spanish Benedictine missionaries, Dom Jos&amp;eacute; Benito  Serra and Dom Rosendo Salvado. Serra&amp;rsquo;s involvement in the missionary  activities at new Norcia decreased following his appointment as  Co-adjutor Bishop of Perth in 1849, while Salvado (1814-1900) committed  himself wholly to developing the mission and leading the monastic  community. He subsequently became the key figure in the first 50 years  of New Norcia&amp;rsquo;s history. He made numerous fundraising trips to Europe,  which provided him with the means to purchase books, vestments, artwork  and equipment for the community and also to oversee the construction of  new buildings. He died in Rome in 1900 and his body was returned to New  Norcia. Under Salvado&amp;rsquo;s successor, Bishop Fulgentius Torres (1861-1914),  New Norcia became more like a traditional monastic settlement. An  increased focus on education and artistic pursuits led to the  establishment of two schools and improvements to many of the town&amp;rsquo;s  buildings. St Ildephonsus opened in 1913 as a boarding school for boys.  It was staffed by Marist Brothers until 1965, when the Benedictines took  over. The school closed in 1991 and is now used primarily as a venue  for school camps.&lt;/p&gt;&#13;

St Ildephonsus was a seventh-century monk at the Benedictine monastery  of Agli near Toledo. From 657 until his death in 667, he served as the  Archbishop of Toledo. One of his works, De Virginitate Sanctae Mariae,  is a treatise defending the perpetual virginity of Mary. The painting  above the altarpiece in the New Norcia chapel depicts the hagiographical  legend in which Mary appeared before Ildephonsus and presented him with  a priestly vestment as a reward for honouring her.&lt;/p&gt;&#13;
&lt;p&gt;About New Norcia:&lt;/p&gt;&#13;
&lt;p&gt;New Norcia is a monastic town located 132 km north of Perth in Western  Australia. The town is owned and run by a community of Benedictine monks  and houses one of only three Benedictine monasteries (for men) in  Australia. At its height the monastery housed approximately 80 monks,  but currently there are only seven in residence. The Benedictines are  part of a religious order within the Catholic Church known as the Order  of St Benedict (OSB). Benedictines live in small, largely autonomous  communities and base their way of life on the Rule of St Benedict, which  prioritises a balance of prayer and work and calls for promises of  stability, obedience and a conversion of life. The first Benedictine  community was established in the sixth-century in Italy by St Benedict  of Nursia (c.480-547).&lt;/p&gt;&#13;
&lt;p&gt;Originally intended as a mission to evangelise and educate the  indigenous peoples of the Victoria Plains, the site at New Norcia was  founded in 1847 by two Spanish Benedictine missionaries, Dom Jos&amp;eacute; Benito  Serra and Dom Rosendo Salvado. Serra&amp;rsquo;s involvement in the missionary  activities at new Norcia decreased following his appointment as  Co-adjutor Bishop of Perth in 1849, while Salvado (1814-1900) committed  himself wholly to developing the mission and leading the monastic  community. He subsequently became the key figure in the first 50 years  of New Norcia&amp;rsquo;s history. He made numerous fundraising trips to Europe,  which provided him with the means to purchase books, vestments, artwork  and equipment for the community and also to oversee the construction of  new buildings. He died in Rome in 1900 and his body was returned to New  Norcia. Under Salvado&amp;rsquo;s successor, Bishop Fulgentius Torres (1861-1914),  New Norcia became more like a traditional monastic settlement. An  increased focus on education and artistic pursuits led to the  establishment of two schools and improvements to many of the town&amp;rsquo;s  buildings. St Ildephonsus opened in 1913 as a boarding school for boys.  It was staffed by Marist Brothers until 1965, when the Benedictines took  over. The school closed in 1991 and is now used primarily as a venue  for school camps.&lt;/p&gt;&#13;

                <text>&lt;p&gt;St John the Evangelist&amp;rsquo;s Church is in the village of Richmond, Tasmania, and is the oldest continuously used Catholic church in Australia. The present building is an amalgam of two designs. The earliest building was designed by the English (Bath) architect Henry Edmund Goodbridge (1800-1863) after John Bede Polding (1794-1877), Australia&amp;rsquo;s first Catholic bishop, obtained plans for several churches from Goodbridge before sailing to Australia in 1835. Polding laid the foundation stone in 1835 and the church was completed in 1837. The nave of the present building is from the original church. In 1859 additions were completed under the supervision of architect Frederick Thomas (1817-1885) from a detailed scale model made by the English architect Augustus Welby Northmore Pugin (1812-1852) in 1843. The model was made for Pugin&amp;rsquo;s friend Robert William Willson (1794-1866) who was the first Catholic Bishop in Tasmania. From Pugin&amp;rsquo;s design come the chancel (including the rear window with tracery), sacristy and spire. The building is in the Gothic Revival style with pointed arch doorways, buttresses, tracery, spire, stair turret, and lancet windows. The present spire is the third and a scaled down version of Pugin's original designed by architect Rod Cooper and added in 1972. The cross on top of the spire is all that remains of the second spire, designed by Alexander North (1858-1945)&amp;nbsp;in 1893.&lt;/p&gt;&#13;
&lt;p&gt;Augustus Welby Northmore Pugin (1812-1852) played a central role in establishing the Gothic Revival style and is best remembered for his work on the Houses of Parliament in London, and the interior of the Palace of Westminster.&lt;/p&gt;&#13;

                <text>&lt;p&gt;St John the Evangelist&amp;rsquo;s Church is in the village of Richmond, Tasmania, and is the oldest continuously used Catholic church in Australia. The present building is an amalgam of two designs. The earliest building was designed by the English (Bath) architect Henry Edmund Goodbridge (1800-1863) after John Bede Polding (1794-1877), Australia&amp;rsquo;s first Catholic bishop, obtained plans for several churches from Goodbridge before sailing to Australia in 1835. Polding laid the foundation stone in 1835 and the church was completed in 1837. The nave of the present building is from the original church. In 1859 additions were completed under the supervision of architect Frederick Thomas (1817-1885) from a parts of a detailed scale model made by the English architect Augustus Welby Northmore Pugin (1812-1852) in 1843. The model was made for Pugin&amp;rsquo;s friend Robert William Willson (1794-1866) who was the first Catholic Bishop in Tasmania. From Pugin&amp;rsquo;s design come the chancel (including the rear stained glass window with tracery seen in photograph two), sacristy and spire. Thomas designed the communion rails as the rood screen in Pugin&amp;rsquo;s model was too large for the building, as well as the pointed chancel arch. The interior also includes a font designed by Pugin in 1843. It was carved in England and brought to Tasmania by Bishop Wilson, and sits atop a platform of simple medieval-style tiles. &amp;nbsp;&lt;/p&gt;&#13;
&lt;p&gt;Augustus Welby Northmore Pugin (1812-1852) played a central role in establishing the Gothic Revival style and is best remembered for his work on the Houses of Parliament in London, and the interior of the Palace of Westminster.&lt;/p&gt;&#13;

                  <text>This Collection illustrates how medievalism has always existed â€˜in plain viewâ€™ in Australian public life, as a conspicuous cultural memory ghosting Australiaâ€™s modernity. It focuses on discourses about, debates over, and changing interpretations of i) Australiaâ€™s medievalist political and religious institutions and rituals, ii) its architecture, and iii) its civic environment. In this Collection are items relating to all three of these key areas. Firstly, you will find items that point to the medieval influences and inflections that still permeate and influence our political, legal and religious institutions and traditions.                 <text>The Church of St John the Baptist, also known as St Johnâ€™s Anglican Church is in the Sydney, New South Wales, suburb of Kirribilli. It was originally built as a church school and was designed by Edmund Thomas Blacket (1817-1883). It was built in 1884, with the vestry and sanctuary added in 1900 and the parish hall (now a kindergarten) in 1909. Due to its position close to one end of Sydney Harbour Bridge St Johnâ€™s is also known as the Church by the Bridge and an evangelical group of that name meet at the church. The Church of St John the Baptist is in the Romanesque Revival style and features semi-circular arched windows and doorways, a circular window, buttresses, a porch, and a copper overlaid bell tower topped by a spire. </text>
