                <text>&lt;p&gt;&lt;span style="font-family: 'Tahoma','sans-serif'; font-size: 10pt; mso-bidi-font-weight: bold;"&gt;The Military Complex at the penal colony of Port Arthur, Tasmania, is situated in a prominent position overlooking the harbour. It is the third&lt;br /&gt;military complex on the site and was built in 1847, with the central tower built in 1836. Both were built during the rule of Commandant Charles O&amp;rsquo;Hara Booth (1800-1851) and they are situated next to the Commandant&amp;rsquo;s House which&amp;nbsp;was built for him. The complex was built with convict labour, and the stones of the central tower were shaped by the boys at the nearby Point Puer Juvenile Establishment. No doubt in part due to practical considerations, the Military Complex resembles a medieval castle, with the central round Guard Tower&amp;nbsp;flanked by two smaller round towers, all of which are topped by crenelated parapets. The towers are separated by a strong stone wall.&lt;/span&gt;&lt;/p&gt;&#13;

                <text>&lt;p&gt;This large stained glass window featuring three figures from the Old Testament is on the northern wall of St David&amp;rsquo;s Anglican Cathedral, Hobart. It was created by the firm Burlison and Grylls and installed in the Cathedral in 1872. Each of the three figures &amp;ndash; Joshua, Moses, and Gideon, occupy a lancet window. While Moses is attired in a robe, Gideon wears armour and a hat of the Renaissance period, and carries a spear. Joshua, who led the Israelites on their conquest of Canaan following the death of Moses, is dressed as a medieval knight. He wears full plate armour of the late medieval period and a sword at his side, and carries a lance. His helmet is at his feet. All three figures are standing above a representation of a castle/fortress with three round towers topped by a crenelated parapet, and Gothic-style spires. Below the castles are heraldic shields.&lt;/p&gt;&#13;

                <text>&lt;p&gt;This pigeon tower, or dovecote, is located on the banks of Macquarie River on a property owned by Burlington Farming Pty Ltd near the northern Tasmanian town of Cressy. The tower was originally part of the adjoining Panshanger Estate and was built in the 1830s under the directions of the original owner Joseph Archer (1795-1853). The building is approximately fifteen metres high and provided pigeons and chickens for the Estate. A cottage for the tower keeper originally stood nearby. Despite its intended function, the circular tower has the appearance of a fortified medieval tower featuring a crenelated parapet, blind semi-circular arched windows, and the openings for the pigeons have the external appearance of arrow slits. The attractive tower was in part made to be viewed from the Archer home, and it features in paintings by William Charles Piguenit (1836-1914). It is still intact, including brick fowl nesting boxes on the ground floor, and the timber floors and ceiling have recently been restored.&lt;/p&gt;&#13;

                <text>&lt;p&gt;&lt;span style="font-family: 'Tahoma','sans-serif'; font-size: 10pt; mso-bidi-font-weight: bold;"&gt;This small round tower is part of the Military Complex at the penal colony of Port Arthur, Tasmania. The complex is situated in a prominent position overlooking the harbour. It is the third military complex on the site and was built in 1847, with the central tower built in 1836. Both were built during the rule of Commandant Charles O&amp;rsquo;Hara Booth (1800-1851) and they are situated next to the Commandant&amp;rsquo;s House which he had built. The complex was&lt;br /&gt;built with convict labour. No doubt in part due to practical considerations, the Military Complex resembles a medieval castle, with the central round Guard Tower flanked by two smaller round towers, all of which are topped by&lt;br /&gt;crenelated parapets. The towers are separated by a strong stone wall. As can be seen in this photograph, the towers were made to be used. The small round tower was entered from the rear and was large enough to accommodate a guard who would be able to look out over the harbour and shoot down on anyone approaching. The crenellation would provide some protection.&lt;/span&gt;&lt;/p&gt;&#13;

                <text>St Andrewâ€™s Anglican Church is in the town of Carrick in northern Tasmania. The church was transformed from a schoolhouse by Thomas Reibey of Hadspen in 1845, who became its first minister and was later succeeded by his brother. The tower was added in 1863. St Andrewâ€™s was consecrated by Tasmaniaâ€™s first Anglican Bishop, Francis Russell Nixon. The stuccoed brick church is in the Gothic Revival style and features a pointed arched entrance and windows, and a square tower with crenelated parapets, buttresses, and lancet windows. </text>

                <text>&lt;p&gt;St Mark&amp;rsquo;s Church of England (now Anglican) is in the small Tasmanian town of Pontville. The ashlar stone church was built between 1839 and 1841 by Joseph Moir and the foundation stone (no longer visible) is thought to have been laid by Governor Sir John Franklin (1786-1847). Due to a dispute over the ownership of the land the church was not consecrated until 1884. St Mark&amp;rsquo;s was designed by the convict architect James Blackburn (1803-1854) in the Romanesque Revival, or Neo-Norman, style. It is one of the oldest remaining buildings in the style in Australia. It features semi-circular arches on the doorways and windows, Celtic crosses at each gable end, four small square corner towers with arrow slits and pyramid-shaped roofs of iron, stained glass, and buttresses along the sides of the building. Additional features at the rear of the building are blind doorways with semi-circular arches on the towers, a large stained glass window (with protective covering), and an unusual Romanesque square garden feature (or tomb?) in the cemetery with columns and semi-circular arches.&lt;/p&gt;&#13;
&lt;p&gt;Romanesque Revival architecture is sometimes referred to as Neo-Norman due to the Normans influence in spreading the Romanesque style through England after their conquest in 1066.&lt;/p&gt;&#13;

                <text>St Maryâ€™s Church of England (now Anglican) is in the small Tasmanian town of Kempton. The foundation stone for the sandstone church was laid in 1839 and it opened in 1844. It is thought that the church was designed by the convict architect James Blackburn (1803-1854). The church is in the Gothic Revival style and features lancet windows (the small ones at the front are concreted up), including groups of three lancet windows at the buildingâ€™s east and west, buttresses, and a pointed arch door and doorway. The square tower is unfinished, resulting in the bell being housed in a smaller structure on its top. Surprisingly, this addition has three Romanesque semi-circular arches on each side rather than the Gothic pointed arches used elsewhere on the building.</text>
