Description
An account of the resource
This Collection traces the development of academic medievalism in Australia’s universities, and explores the discipline’s complex ideological affiliations. In this Collection you will find items relating to: the medievalist content of educational programmes, such as examples of university unit outlines; the teaching of the medieval through processes of medievalism, such as in demonstrations of medieval cooking or fighting techniques; and references to the medieval in modern educational debates and contexts.

A static visual representation. Examples of still images are: paintings, drawings, graphic designs, plans and maps. Recommended best practice is to assign the type "text" to images of textual materials.

This photograph was taken during the official opening of this website - Medievalism in Australian Cultural Memory. The opening address was given by one of the researchers for the website, Dr Joanne McEwan, during the International Medievalism and Popular Culture Symposium held at the University of Western Australia on December 4 and 5, 2011. Delegates were later invited to test-run the website.

<p>Scans of the essay questions for the English and Cultural Studies undergraduate course Medieval in the Modern World coordinated by Andrew Lynch at the University of Western Australia. Of particular note is question 12 which asks students to write about a ‘medievalist’ feature which they can find in Perth. St George’s Cathedral, Millenium Swords and Armour, and the Society for Creative Anachronism are all provided as examples. This website is also recommended to students for help in understanding medievalism.</p>
