<p>Ancient Arts Fellowship, Inc. is a medieval re-enactment group based in Canberra in the Australian Capital Territory. They focus on the ‘Dark Ages’, or early medieval period, especially the 8<sup>th</sup> century through to the Norman invasion of England in 1066. Geographically the focus is on northern Europe and Britain, featuring such peoples as Anglo-Saxons, Normans, and Vikings. They hold an annual camping weekend in October at Beorg-wic, part of The Danelaw property (named after the part of England settled by Vikings and where aspects of Danish law was used). During the weekend re-enactors participate in fighting, craft, archery, and feasting. Payment for the event is referred to as Danegeld (a payment made to make Vikings not attack), and catering is provided by the Vinland Coffee House (<em>Vinland</em> was the name given by Viking explorers for part of north America. <em>Beorg-wic </em>is Old English for hill settlement.</p>

The group run educational classes for school groups from primary through to tertiary students. The sessions usually run for two hours and include a mixture of fighting and speaking. They have a number ‘Display Packages’ to choose from that focus on major figures such as Alfred the Great and William the Conqueror, and various aspects of society including crafts, clothing, the Old English language, religion, law, monetary systems, armour and weapons.</p>

The New England Medieval Arts Society (NEMAS) are a historical re-enactment group based in the New South Wales city of Armidale. The group concentrates on the fourth- to eleventh-century early medieval period (sometimes referred to as the ‘Dark Ages’), featuring such groups as the Byzantines, Anglo-Saxons, Normans, and Vikings. As well as weapons, armour, and battles, the group also re-creates woodworking, blacksmithing, tanning, spinning, and weaving. NEMAS headquarters is at a longhouse built in the Armidale State Forest. The longhouse was a building form common among ‘Germanic’ peoples, such as the Anglo-Saxons and Vikings, in early medieval Europe.

The Grey Company are an historical re-enactment group based in Perth. They concentrate on the ‘Dark Ages’ or early medieval period and its various peoples, especially Anglo-Saxons, Celts, Normans, Saracens, and Vikings, but they also perform as gladiators, pirates, crusaders, and late medieval knights. Most of the clothing, weapons, and armour are made by members of the company, for which they hold workshops. The Grey Company often perform battles at public events.
