                <text>This building at 59 Cameron Street in the Tasmanian city of Launceston was formally occupied by the landscape artist Frederick Strange (1807-1873) in the mid nineteenth century, and later became the headquarters of the Launceston Equitable Building Society. The three-storey red brick and stucco building includes Gothic elements, most obviously in the use of pointed arches on the windows and entrance, including two lancet windows on the top storey, as well as the corner spires.</text>

                <text>&lt;p&gt;This pigeon tower, or dovecote, is located on the banks of Macquarie River on a property owned by Burlington Farming Pty Ltd near the northern Tasmanian town of Cressy. The tower was originally part of the adjoining Panshanger Estate and was built in the 1830s under the directions of the original owner Joseph Archer (1795-1853). The building is approximately fifteen metres high and provided pigeons and chickens for the Estate. A cottage for the tower keeper originally stood nearby. Despite its intended function, the circular tower has the appearance of a fortified medieval tower featuring a crenelated parapet, blind semi-circular arched windows, and the openings for the pigeons have the external appearance of arrow slits. The attractive tower was in part made to be viewed from the Archer home, and it features in paintings by William Charles Piguenit (1836-1914). It is still intact, including brick fowl nesting boxes on the ground floor, and the timber floors and ceiling have recently been restored.&lt;/p&gt;&#13;

Their website is devoted to the works of English architect August Welby Northmore Pugin (1812-1852). The website has a particular focus on the Pugin-designed churches built in Australia, examples of which survive in New South Wales, Queensland, and Tasmania. The list of surviving churches include links to essays on most the churches. Pugin was instrumental in establishing the Gothic Revival movement in architecture. Although he never visited Australia, the churches were constructed after detailed drawings, and sometimes scale models, were sent from England.&lt;/p&gt;&#13;

                <text>This memorial cross can be found in the churchyard of Christ Church in Longford. It is a ring-headed &amp;lsquo;Celtic&amp;rsquo; style cross. The 1899 cross commemorates James Appleyard who designed the churchyard and planted its trees. Free-standing ring-headed high crosses were common in medieval Ireland, and also occur in Scotland, the Isle of Man, Wales, Cornwall, and northern England, primarily between the 8th and 12th centuries before the style became popular again in the 19th century.                   <text>This Collection illustrates how medievalism has always existed â€˜in plain viewâ€™ in Australian public life, as a conspicuous cultural memory ghosting Australiaâ€™s modernity. It focuses on discourses about, debates over, and changing interpretations of i) Australiaâ€™s medievalist political and religious institutions and rituals, ii) its architecture, and iii) its civic environment. In this Collection are items relating to all three of these key areas. Firstly, you will find items that point to the medieval influences and inflections that still permeate and influence our political, legal and religious institutions and traditions. Secondly, you will find numerous examples of neo-gothic and neo-romanesque architecture, and some cases where architectural features are known to have been modelled on specific medieval buildings. Thirdly, you will find items relating to the ways in which medievalism is incorporated into our civic environments and expressed through statues, monuments and war memorials.</text>

                <text>&lt;p&gt;St George&amp;rsquo;s Anglican Chapel is the chapel of St George&amp;rsquo;s College, a residential college for students attending The University of Western Australia in Perth. The foundation stone of the chapel was laid in 1928 by Archbishop Riley, and the chapel was designed by Sir Talbot Hobbs. Unusually, the red brick chapel is built north-south rather than east-west like most churches. St George&amp;rsquo;s Chapel is built in the Gothic Revival style. It features stained glass windows at the north and south ends. The large west window above the entrance includes five lancet windows and the three central windows are devoted to medieval Anglo-Saxon saints of England: St Aiden of Lindisfarne (d. 651) who undertook missionary work in the Anglo-Saxon kingdom of Northumbria and established the monastery on the island of Lindisfarne; St Augustine (d. 604), the first Archbishop of Canterbury who led the mission to convert the Anglo-Saxons sent by Pope Gregory the Great; and St Boniface (d. 754), an Anglo-Saxon missionary who worked in Germany and Frisia. The east window includes St George wearing armour and carrying a sword to the right of Jesus in the centre (St Paul also carries a sword and is on Jesus&amp;rsquo; left).&lt;/p&gt;&#13;
