&lt;/span&gt;&lt;span style="font-size: 10pt;"&gt;In &amp;ldquo;The Winter&amp;rsquo;s Tale&amp;rdquo;, Leontes, the King  of Sicilia, becomes consumed with jealousy that  Hermione, his wife, is having an affair with the King of Bohemia  (Polixenes). He instructs his councillor Camillo to poison Polixenes,  but instead Camillo reveals Leontes&amp;rsquo; plans and both he and Polixenes  secretly leave for Bohemia. The pregnant Hermione is  banished to prison, where she gives birth to a daughter. Refusing to  believe the legitimacy of the child, Leontes demands that the child be  burned alive and then, upon the protestations of his chief adviser  Antigonus, abandoned off the coast of Bohemia. In  the events that unfold over the following Act, Leontes refuses to  believe an oracle from Apollo&amp;rsquo;s Temple exonerating Hermione&amp;rsquo;s and orders  her trial to proceed, his son Mamillius dies, Hermione dies, Leontes  realises his mistake and repents, Antigonus is killed  by a bear and a shepherd finds the abandoned baby and takes her home.  Sixteen years later, in Bohemia, the story recommences with Polixenes  expressing concern that his son Florizel has fallen in love with a  shepherdess. He attends a sheep-shearing festival  in disguise, revealing himself at the last moment to prevent the  betrothal of the couple, after which Florizel and the shepherdess are  advised by Camillo (now Polixenes&amp;rsquo; chief adviser) to flee to Sicilia.  When Polixenes also arrives in Sicilia with the shepherd  and his son, the shepherdess&amp;rsquo; identity as Leontes&amp;rsquo; lost child is  discovered and her marriage to Florizel condoned, Leontes and Polixenes  are friends once more, and a statue of Hermione comes to life, revealing  that she is alive and has been waiting to be reunited  with her daughter.&lt;/span&gt;&lt;/p&gt;&#13;

From the  age of about 12, Joan had visions of saints and heard heavenly voices  that increasingly urged her to fight for France during the Hundred  Years&amp;rsquo; War. She travelled to the court of Charles  De Ponthieu, the Orl&amp;eacute;anist claimant to the throne, where she was  provided with a suit of armour and her distinctive banner depicting a  golden fleur-de-lys. She secured a decisive military victory to rescue  the city of Orl&amp;eacute;ans from the Earl of Salisbury&amp;rsquo;s English  army in 1429, and was present at the coronation of Charles VII.  However, in May the following year Joan was captured by Burgundian  forces at Compi&amp;egrave;gne, and was handed over to the English. She was tried  at Rouen on charges of witchcraft and heresy, and was  condemned to death. On 30 May 1431, she was executed. Two and a half  decades later, the case was appealed and her conviction was overturned.  She was beatified in 1909 and canonised as a saint in 1920.&lt;/span&gt;&lt;/p&gt;</text>

                <text>A recreationist knight clad in a chainmail haubergeon and byrnie at the Perth Medieval Fayre. Chain mail was used extensively in the middle ages to fashion protective garments by interlocking thousands of metal rings to form a meshed material. These chainmail garments were worn by medieval knights and soldiers as body armour, although chainmail was gradually superseded by plate armour in the fourteenth century.&#13;
&#13;
The Perth Medieval Fayre is organised by the Western Australian Medieval Alliance (WAMA). In 2011 it was held at Supreme Court Gardens on 19 March. Enthusiasts and vendors showcased a range of medieval arts and crafts, from dancing, calligraphy and lace-making to demonstrations of the techniques, weaponry and apparel of medieval combat.</text>

                <text>A suit of plate armour on display at the Perth medieval Fayre. This type of armour, consisting of a breastplate and various other plates to protect the arms, legs, elbows, hands and shoulders, was crafted from steel and began to replace chainmail as the favoured armour for knights during the fourteenth century. The Perth Medieval Fayre is organised by the Western Australian Medieval Alliance (WAMA). In 2011 it was held at Supreme Court Gardens on 19 March. Enthusiasts and vendors showcased a range of medieval arts and crafts, from dancing, calligraphy and lace-making to demonstrations of the techniques, weaponry and apparel of medieval combat.</text>
