The article reports the discovery of a Viking burial on the island of Unst in the Shetland Islands, Scotland. Along with human, dog, and bones was found a whale vertebra which had been turned into a cup. A drawing of the cup is included. The article confidently dates the burial to the ninth century and the time of the Norwegian king Harald Finehair. As this burial is not included in the most recent catalogue of Viking burials in Scotland (James Graham-Campbell & Colleen Batey, Vikings in Scotland: An Archaeological Survey, Edinburgh University Press 1998), the reported details were probably incorrect.
