Some 200 nurses and actors took part in an elaborate pageant that told the story of nursing from its earliest beginnings to the present day. Costumes ranged from Eastern robes of 1000 years ago, Crusader and Knights of St. John frocks, to the crisp uniforms of the twentieth century. One of the highlights was the unaccompanied singing of the Royal Newcastle Hospital nurses dressed as twelfth-century nuns.
