They are focus on the Crusades and Crusader experiences in the Middle East during the twelfth and thirteenth centuries. Their leader is &amp;lsquo;Duke Robert IV&amp;rsquo;. The text on the Black Wolf website emphasises the multicultural nature of the Holy Land (referred to as Outremer: Fr. outre mer, over-seas) and the merchant caravans travelling the Silk Road from China. Two famous medieval explorers, Marco Polo and Ibn Battuta, are also mentioned. The multicultural interest of the group can be seen in their members, whose characters are French, Turkish, Irish, Danish, and English. The gallery on the website highlights the martial aspects of the group, with members dressed as knights in chain mail and helmets fighting with swords and shields.&lt;/p&gt;&#13;

                <text>&lt;p&gt;The Order of St Thomas of Acre was re-established in 2005 and is dedicated to both St Thomas of Acre and St Thomas of Canterbury. The original Hospitaller&amp;rsquo;s of St Thomas of Canterbury at Acre were founded by King Richard I (the Lionheart) of England (1157-1199) in Acre in 1190 while he was on the third crusade. They were later re-organised into a military order during the fifth crusade. It is usually referred to as the Knights of St Thomas. Membership was restricted to Englishmen. The Knights of St Thomas were dissolved by Henry VIII (1491-1547) in 1538. The current Order has adopted the habit of the original &amp;ndash; a white mantle with a red cross with a scallop shell at its centre. The Order of St Thomas of Acre are an &amp;lsquo;ecumenical society concerned with fostering of the values of traditional chivalry&amp;rsquo;, and their website includes a &amp;lsquo;Chivalric Code&amp;rsquo;. The inclusion on the website of a section on the stained glass windows at St Thomas&amp;rsquo; Anglican Church in the Victorian town of Werribee suggests that someone from the town leads the order.&lt;/p&gt;&#13;
&lt;p&gt;St Thomas of Canterbury (Thomas Becket) (1118-1170) was appointed Archbishop of Canterbury by Henry II (1133-1189) of England, father of Richard I. After a series of disputes with Henry he was martyred in Canterbury Cathedral by the king&amp;rsquo;s followers.&lt;/p&gt;&#13;

                <text>&lt;p&gt;Danelaw Medieval Fighting Society are a New South Wales re-enactment group who own The Danelaw, a 120 acre property in a pine forest between Sydney and Canberra that is used by re-enactment groups. The property includes a fort, axe- and knife-throwing areas, a tournament ring, as well as trebuchet&amp;rsquo;s, a type of catapult used in siege warfare from the twelfth century. The Danelaw Medieval Fighting Society were formed in the mid-1980s by James Adams as the Medieval Martial Arts Association of Southern Sydney. They adopted the current name in 2002. Members re-enact warfare methods with authentic costumes and weapons from throughout the medieval period, including such groups as Anglo-Saxons, Celts, Crusaders, Normans, Saracens, and the knights of the High Middle Ages. The property is named after the Danelaw of England, that part of England conquered and settled by the Vikings in the second half of the ninth century, and where aspects of &amp;lsquo;Danish&amp;rsquo; law were used.&lt;/p&gt;&#13;

                <text>This amusing temperance â€˜dittyâ€™ describes the adventures of â€œa burly Templar chiefâ€ whose carefree night of drinking turns out to be more than he expected or bargained for. The I.O.G.T. was a temperance society (The International Order of Good Templars). There were people from all walks of life and religious persuasions involved in the temperance movement in 1880s Australia, Britain, America and Sweden. Presumably the I.O.G.T. hierarchy viewed themselves as crusader knights fighting the â€œGood Fight,â€ and clearly a good fight was one that ended well for â€˜true believersâ€™ and badly for their foes (i.e. â€˜winebibbersâ€™, â€˜publicansâ€™ and â€˜sinners). However, it should be noted that the Order of Knights Templar, a powerful military order and charitable organisation in the Middle Ages, was never actually forbidden the use of wine, and occasionally instances of over-indulgence were recorded (See Dominic Selwood, Knights of the Cloister: Templars and Hospitallers in central-southern Occitania c.1100-c.1300, Woodbridge, Boydell, 2001, p.205). This oversight reveals the mindset of those who supported the adoption of quasi-medieval terminology and ceremony in the nineteenth-century, without fully appreciating the history and behaviour of those whose names they had chosen to adopt.</text>

The warrior is mounted and carries a curved sword, known as a scimitar, and a round shield. Saracens were first mentioned by Roman authors and in the medieval period the term was often used to describe all Arabs, or even all Muslims. They were particularly associated with those fighting the European Crusaders during the medieval Crusades to the Holy Land.&lt;/p&gt;&#13;

Pictured is a turned wooden bowl, a serrated-edged knife with a carved handle, a steel fork with two tines, a spoon, and an â€˜ash glazedâ€™ goblet. There is also a candle and candle-holder with scrolled feet, presumably included to lend atmosphere to the â€˜still lifeâ€™ composition. These items roughly approximate the kinds of everyday implements that would have been used by the knights at mealtimes in the early fifteenth century. </text>

                <text>This website advertises a range of Knights Templar garb and weaponry that has been designed with the guidance of â€˜The Knights Templarâ€™, a Brisbane-based re-enactment society. The Knights Templar formed what was arguably the most powerful and well-known of the Christian military orders in the medieval period. The order was endorsed by the Catholic Church in the early twelfth century and was particularly active during the Crusades. The clothing adopted by the Templar Knights was distinctive, consisting of a white surcoat with a red cross. Most of this â€˜war gearâ€™ is visually self-explanatory, thanks to films such as The Kingdom of Heaven (2003), which depicts crusading knights playing politics and fighting Saladin in the Holy Land. The Esford online catalogue promotes their version of the Templar sword, dagger, helmet, gambeson, surcoat, and hooded cloak. The purpose of the surcoat was initially to protect the wearer from the sun, although the practice was quickly adopted elsewhere, even in the northern lands where the climate did not warrant such precautions (See Mark Cruse, â€˜Material Cultureâ€™ in Albrecht Classen, ed. Handbook of Medieval Studies: Terms, Methods, Trends, Vol. 1., Berlin, De Gruyter, 2010, p.841). Curiously, there are two essential items missing from the Templarâ€™s equipment: a mail coat and a red cross emblazoned triangular shield. </text>
