                <text>&lt;p&gt;This memorial board of the &amp;lsquo;St Andrews Memorial Endowment Roll&amp;rsquo; is in St Andrew&amp;rsquo;s Church of England (Anglican) in the small Tasmanian town of Westbury. It was carved by the Tasmanian woodcarver Ellen Nora Payne (1865-1962) of Hobart, who had been born in the Westbury district. As befits a church built in the Gothic Revival architectural style, the memorial board includes Gothic touches, primarily in the central panel. The carving of the Virgin and Child is housed in a Gothic niche featuring a pointed arch ending in a decorated finial. Behind the arch is the representation of two Gothic pointed arch windows with tracery forming a cross. There is also a finial on both vertical ends of the board.&lt;/p&gt;&#13;

                <text>&lt;p&gt;&lt;span style="font-family: 'Tahoma','sans-serif'; font-size: 10pt; mso-bidi-font-weight: bold;"&gt;The Military Complex at the penal colony of Port Arthur, Tasmania, is situated in a prominent position overlooking the harbour. It is the third&lt;br /&gt;military complex on the site and was built in 1847, with the central tower built in 1836. Both were built during the rule of Commandant Charles O&amp;rsquo;Hara Booth (1800-1851) and they are situated next to the Commandant&amp;rsquo;s House which&amp;nbsp;was built for him. The complex was built with convict labour, and the stones of the central tower were shaped by the boys at the nearby Point Puer Juvenile Establishment. No doubt in part due to practical considerations, the Military Complex resembles a medieval castle, with the central round Guard Tower&amp;nbsp;flanked by two smaller round towers, all of which are topped by crenelated parapets. The towers are separated by a strong stone wall.&lt;/span&gt;&lt;/p&gt;&#13;

It focuses on discourses about, debates over, and changing interpretations of i) Australiaâ€™s medievalist political and religious institutions and rituals, ii) its architecture, and iii) its civic environment. In this Collection are items relating to all three of these key areas.                 <text>A view of a minaret - or tall, tiered tower - at the Forum Theatre (formerly the State Theatre) in central Melbourne. Designed by American architect John Eberson in conjunction with Melbourne firm Bohringer, Taylor &amp; Johnson, The Forum was originally built as a cinema palace. Completed in 1928, it is one of four cinemas that opened in Melbourne in the 1920s. The exterior of the building combines Spanish Mission and â€˜Alhambresqueâ€™ Moorish Revival architecture. The minarets, cupolaâ€™s and pressed cement decorations are reminiscent of Islamic Spanish architecture dating from the eighth to the fifteenth century. The Iberian Peninsula was conquered in 711 by the Muslim army of Tariq ibn Ziyad, and the various southern Spanish States remained under Arab or Moorish Islamic rule until they were gradually reconquered by Catholic monarchs throughout the later medieval period. The reconquest ended with the conversion of Andalusia in 1492. </text>

                <text>&lt;p&gt;This 11 minute film on YouTube shows has been pieced together from separate performances by Minerva&amp;rsquo;s Tower at the 2012 Balingup Medieval Carnivale. The event was held in the town of Balingup in the south-west of Western Australia on August 25-26. The film was made by Belinda Bennett. The film shows the band perform a six pieces comprised of traditional folk music, a Renaissance tune, and a thirteenth century trouv&amp;egrave;re (northern French version of troubadour) song.&lt;/p&gt;&#13;
&lt;p&gt;Minerva&amp;rsquo;s Tower are a Perth-based band who performs medieval and neo-medieval folk music, including some original compositions. The band consists of two multi-instrumentalists, Alana Bennett and Dylan Kerr.&lt;/p&gt;&#13;

The Mitchell Building was designed by South Australian architect Willliam McMinn, and is of a Victorian Academic Gothic architectural style. It was completed between 1879 and 1881, and officially opened in 1882. The Mitchell Building was the first building on the North Terrace campus of The University of Adelaide and originally housed all of the university disciplines. It was renamed the Mitchell Building in 1961 in honour of Sir William Mitchell, who was Vice-Chancellor of the university from 1916-1942 and Chancellor from 1942-1948. Today it is used as an administrative hub. The Mitchell Buildingâ€™s notable neo-gothic features include the steeply gabled roof, rows of twin lancet windows, decorative stone tracery, entrance porch and the stone fleche/spire.</text>
